Adam Hedley

Adam Hedley is an artist based in Bristol whose fluid, amorphous oil paintings sit between abstraction, landscape, and figuration, with traces of recognisable forms emerging from an ambiguous and ethereal soft blurriness.
His paintings begin from drawings that he describes as “a kind of archaeological digging”, and observations of the natural world - “anything from historical artefacts and ancient sites to maps, lichen, roots, manuscripts, woodlands, streets, and anything in between.” From these source materials, his paintings grow in a slow and methodical layering of thin washes of diluted oil paints and dry-brushed textures.
“I try to stay responsive, letting the work unfold intuitively… It’s not about depicting a specific place, but tracing what’s left behind - faded impressions, fragments, and atmospheres…”
Adam has exhibited extensively within the UK and internationally, including London, Sydney and LA, with solo shows in Nottingham, UK, and Dallas, USA.
